How to Remove Peel and Stick Wallpaper
Removing older-style wallpaper used to be a difficult and time-consuming project that could see you spend the entire weekend peeling the walls just to have it end in frustration. Luckily, some new types of wallpaper, such as peel and stick wallpaper, make it easier to get the job done with fewer issues.

Our team at Superior Paint & Decorating can give you the tips and advice you need to make quick work of removing your peel and stick wallpaper. We have years of experience helping customers in the Lexington, KY, area find the best paint, wallpaper, and inspiration to make their interior design dreams become a reality..
Three Steps for Removing Peel and Stick Wallpaper Removal
Step One
The first thing you’ll want to do is dismantle your room by taking down your décor, like shelves, art, mirrors, etc. This will make the process much simpler as you won’t have to try and work around hanging objects. Removing the shelves will also ensure that you can get total coverage along your wall.
Step Two
Using a utility knife, go along the edges of the wallpaper so that it is loose from caulk and paint. Take your time to ensure you don’t accidentally cut the wall underneath.
Step Three
With a heat gun, warm the wallpaper by gently holding the gun a couple of inches from the surface and sweeping the heat gun from side to side. This motion will help loosen the wallpaper's stickiness. Remember to avoid keeping the heat gun in a single place for too long.
Once you have warmed it with the heat gun, slowly peel the wallpaper away at a 45-degree angle. You may find that some areas are a bit stubborn, so added warming might be necessary. In most cases, it should all come down in one piece. Once it is all removed, allow the wall to dry before you begin to apply the new wallpaper.
